Calm Classrooms, Clever Play provides primary and elementary educators with a clear, actionable roadmap for running an inclusive, highly structured, and joyfully child-centered learning environment.

For many teachers and support teams, balancing rich, play-based frameworks with complex sensory profiles, individualised learning plans (IEPs/SSPs), and national policy directives can feel overwhelming. This workshop bridges that gap. By transforming the physical room into purpose-driven, age-respectful learning zones, educators learn how to let the environment carry the daily cognitive load—creating calm, predictable spaces where clever, targeted play drives authentic skill development.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Design Purposeful, Age-Respectful Zones: Structure physical spaces into targeted areas (Construction & Socio-Dramatic, Sensory & Exploration, Creative Arts & Maker, and Quiet Reflection) using high-interest, real-world tools that honor student dignity.

  • Align Support Roles with Policy (Circular 0032/2026): Utilise Zone Purpose Cards to provide Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) with clear, teacher-directed strategies that actively prompt independence, AAC communication, and self-regulation rather than defaulting to passive caretaking.

  • Embed Targets Through Thematic Instruction: Stealth-infuse individual IEP/SSP goals (speech, fine/gross motor, cognitive, and social) directly into child-led thematic play without pulling students away for isolated drills.

  • Capture Authentic 360-Degree Data: Collect continuous, low-friction observational evidence across 5 key developmental domains (Academic/Cognitive, Motor/Sensory, Communication, Executive Functioning, and Social Autonomy), fully aligned with rights-based legislation and the updated EPSEN Act (2004) framework targets.

  • Establish Systems for Pupil Independence: Implement structured visual routines and choice frameworks that reduce learned helplessness and foster long-term student self-efficacy.
